We know it can sometimes be difficult to motivate to watch golf tournaments that aren’t Majors, but here are the Top 3 reasons to watch the HP Byron Nelson Championship this weekend.

1. Byron Nelson – This guy was a stud! He was the golfer’s golfer. Byron was perhaps best known as a true gentleman of the game. His kindness and dedication to his community won the respect and admiration of his peers, present-day players and fans of all ages. Along the way he managed to rack up 54 PGA Tour wins including the 1939 U.S. Open, the 1937 and 1942 Masters, and the 1940 and 1945 PGA Championships. It’s because of him that this tournament exists.

2. Great field – It might not be a major, but the likes of Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth, Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Steven Bowditch and defending champion Sang Moon-Bae will all be out there Thursday.

3. The par-4 18th – This thing is awesome! This 429-yard par-4 doglegs left around a corner guarded by the 45-foot-tall “Byron’s Tree,” and the second shot must be played along or over a pond, with a waterfall short of the green. Many risk/reward situations will be presented here and it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch!

There you have it, I’ve given you an excuse to sit on your can all weekend and take in some great golf!

Next weekend you can take in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial – then maybe you can take Monday off and actually go play some golf!
